Chalkboards
What kid doesn’t love drawing with sidewalk chalk? The only problem is that it generally can’t be done in winter or on rainy days. Why let Mother Nature stifle your child’s creativity, when you can make them their own chalkboard inside?
There’s magnetic paint, chalkboard paint, chalkboard spray paint, and even magnetic chalkboard paint. You can turn almost any surface into a chalkboard. You can use a tabletop, a door, the top or sides of a dresser, or even a wall. Put up a piece of corkboard, paint the area next to it with chalkboard paint, put a frame around the whole thing, and you have yourself a great little message board for leaving notes & putting important info.
We did one wall in each of the kids’ bedrooms with magnetic chalkboard paint. I hung a basket in each room to hold the chalk, eraser, and magnets. Now they each have a wall they can draw on. They can use their magnets to make words, sentences, or even poetry. The drawings & words can change whenever they want, without a lot of work. Even my husband enjoys drawing on the kids’ walls. It’s easy enough for a preschooler, but enough fun for older kids (and apparently, adults).
